The series "Fav(orite)-spot" was created after our customers often sent feedback and travel reports to us. So everyone can read where its most beautiful and maybe visit one or the other place.
We were looking for a cheap accommodation at a friend's place to finally get out on the Whitsun weekend. It should not be far, and we wanted to be able to take the bicycles along with us. So we found on ShareMyProp with friends of friends a cool hut in Itter (Tyrol, AT), where we could book for the Pentecost weekend. The cabin had a room for two, everything was very practically furnished, so that we could start right from there to our bicycle excursions.
The journey to the cabin was quite relaxed, we needed just under 90 minutes from Ebersberg near Munich. The "block clearance" of trucks was a bit annoying, however, so we also progressed a bit slower than expected.
The hut itself offered us enough space and was equipped with all comforts, even WLAN was available.
On Whitsun Saturday we planned a nice route to the "Hohe Salve" (mountain), which was about 30km there and back, whereby it was already just under 1800 meters in altitude, which had to be climbed. With the bicycles we cycled towards Hopfgarten, there you could also take the Salvenbahn if you are not quite so sporty. From Hopfgarten it went steadily upwards on a quiet gravel path until just below the "Sonnseit Hüttn". From there we had to take the road and continued to the middle station. There you can stop for a bite to eat at the Berggasthof Tenn. We continued directly behind it up the mountain to Gasthof Rigi. There we left the bicycles and hiked the last meters (about 30min) uphill, because mountain biking is prohibited there. Here sunscreen is absolutely recommended, there is far and wide no shade!
Above offered a magnificent summit panorama for us, the Hohe Salve is beautiful. You could look directly at the Wilder Kaiser and on the other side to the Grossvenediger massif. At the top you must definitely stop in at the summit restaurant, the prices are okay and it tastes great. Next to the restaurant is the "pilgrimage church Hohe Salve", you should also take a look there. As an insider tip, next to it there is a small shed where you can buy homemade food in a jar. There you can buy excellent soups, goulash and jams - don't forget your change!
On Pentecost Sunday we went to the "Windau valley". There it is beautiful, you cycle along the Windauer Ache (river) and can set as a goal the Gamskogelhüttn. However, it goes almost 20km steadily slightly uphill, so you should already be reasonably fit. Or you can take the e-bike, there is also a charging station at the hut.
In the most beautiful mountain panorama we stopped for lunch. Who has not yet had enough can also continue, but that is then for experienced cyclists or hikers, because it is quite uphill.
We preferred to take it easy on the way back and stopped in the afternoon at Salvenaland in Hopfgarten. The outdoor pool is great, you can choose between a normal pool and a swimming lake on the premises. There we could relax our tired muscles and then rolled back towards the hut in Itter in the evening. Here we enjoyed the sun on the terrace and the view into the valley and already made plans for our return soon.
Really an easy solution to rent the vacation domiciles from private to friends, such "treasures" you would not find so cheap and easy on other booking portals! We book again.
